Fabulous Summer Drinks

Hey y'all...

No, I'm not from the South; I'm from New England, but for some reason, I get the urge to use "y'all" in the summer. It's just so short and sweet, when heat like this makes even your language lazy.

Anyway! Connecticut, like much of the country, is finally starting to see the right side of this heat wave bell curve, but we're still far from the idealistic 72. So to help beat the heat, I'm compiling a collection of my favorite beverages for summer. And this isn't a no-brainer "yay margaritas, nay Miller Chill" list. And it's not including alcohol, because, frankly, the only thing that makes you sweat more in summer is perhaps caffeine. Besides, summer cocktails deserve their own post.

There are few things I enjoy more than sitting somewhere scenic (my parents' backyard, the beach, a park, a lake), reading a great book and sipping something refreshing. Here are some great tea drinks I've concocted over the years. Most brands will do, but I recommend purchasing the Starbucks Tazo variety box. That way you can try them all and see what you like best!

All these recipes are intended for a 2-Qt pitcher. For a single serving, use one teabag and the lemonade mix to taste. Brew the tea in cool water for a softer taste, or hot water for a strong flavor.

Iced Passion Tea with Lemonade
4-5 Passion teabags
1/3 container of Crystal Light Lemonade
(just like they make in Starbucks, but much cheaper)

Cherry Lemonade
4 Cherry Zinger teabags
1/2 container of Crystal Light Lemonade
2 packets Splenda/Sweet-n-Low
(this tea is very tart, so you may want to sweeten it up a bit)

Iced Tea Lemonade
5-6 black teabags
1/2 container of Crystal Light Lemonade

Tea Mojito
4 bags Mint teabags
Juice of 3 limes
2-3 packets Splenda/Sweet-n-Low
